Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish!
After a long family meeting, Liz and I have decided not to come home. Liz is going to make Leis and sell them by the side of the road while I give surfing lessons (I just have to learn to surf first). We'll build ourselves a shanty on the beach, and surf and snorkel all day. The only hard part is getting the shanty big enough for my 55" TV and 7 computers, but I'm sure we'll figure something out.
While this dream wouldn't really work out for us, it is clearly what many people have done. On the north side of the island, there are tons of surfer huts and trailers, and many of our tour guides/wait staff/hotel employees clearly live in them, while following their own dreams of staying in paradise.
It has been a truly spectacular vacation, and one we are not likely to forget for a long time. We hope to get the opportunity to come back again someday, and do it all again. Just to top it off, here is one of the final views from our balcony:
